About the Opportunity
Brown Technology Innovations is a team of dedicated professionals with access to specialized resources, committed to fostering an entrepreneurial culture within the health and biomedical sectors at Brown University, Brown University Health, and Care New England. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director serves two key stakeholder groups:
Faculty and staff inventors responsible for creating innovative technologies.
Industry partners-including investors, entrepreneurs, and companies-focused on commercializing those technologies.
The Director must demonstrate expertise in technology evaluation, intellectual property (IP) protection, and the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of transactions across life sciences fields such as therapeutics, diagnostics, and health information technology.
Advanced degree (PhD, JD, or MBA) in a relevant technical field (e.g., science, medicine, health, engineering)
A minimum 10 years of experience in business development, innovation management, technology commercialization, or related experience.
Experience working with or within academic medical centers is a plus.
Job Competencies
Strong aptitude in patent prosecution and a genuine interest in early-stage technologies and emerging markets.
Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to convey complex technical, legal, and financial concepts.
Deep understanding of licensing structures, valuation models, and negotiation strategies for IP and sponsored research agreements.
Well-developed network of investors, entrepreneurs, and business development professionals in the life sciences sector.
Ability to work independently, analyze complex policy issues, and follow through with minimal oversight.
Proven ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies across all organizational levels.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports diverse perspectives and cultures.
