Join our University Facilities team as a Purchasing Manager and play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly. In this position, youll lead daily purchasing activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services while maintaining compliance with university and state guidelines. Youll manage a small team, oversee budgets, and build strong partnerships to support our mission.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee operations purchasing for non-personnel expenditures within University Facilities.
Serve as the departments subject matter expert on NYS laws, as well as SUNY, UB, and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure departmental compliance and maintain accurate records / systems.
Monitor budgets, analyze trends, and provide reports to support financial planning.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve purchasing efficiency.
Coordinate with the universitys central procurement department to:
Resolve internal issues with processing orders.
Resolve external issues such as delivery or quality of products / services.
Communicate feedback on vendor performance
Establish / renew contracts for our operations department, ensuring business continuity and uninterrupted service.
Drive process improvements and recommend solutions for operational challenges.
Supervise a team of three, setting priorities and guiding performance.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree.
Minimum 2 years of purchasing or procurement experience.
Intermediate Excel skills (i.e., filters, IF formulas, conditional formatting, etc.).
Ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
A combination of education and experience or relevant military training may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with procurement in a state-funded university environment.
Experience with systems like Maximo, Jaggaer, or similar platforms is a plus.
Advanced excel skills (use of VLOOKUP formulas, Pivot Tables etc.)
One year or more of direct supervisory experience
Physical Demands
Salary Range $70,000 - $85,000
