This position reports to the Central Stores Manager of Materials Management. The Distribution Services Supervisor supervises and leads shift-to-shift dock operations to support the organization's mission, vision, values, and goals. Responsible for supporting the dock staff by coordinating the department's workflow.
Trains and orientates new service staff. Conducts in-service training to explain policies and work procedures and demonstrate equipment use and maintenance. Assists with developing teamwork among peers, staff, and nursing departments. Ensures that the team completes all tasks and provides the support necessary for achieving these assigned tasks. Must collaborate with others, organize well, accomplish tasks, solve problems, and communicate effectively. The Distribution Services Supervisor manages all aspects of shipping and receiving including routes and delivery, specifically within the surrounding UIC Campus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage orders and arrange stocking of materials and equipment to ensure they meet needs.
Organize and schedule all necessary resources required to accomplish activities.
Strategically plan and manage logistics, warehouse, transportation of items according to customer requirements
Keep records of all shipping activities, documenting procedures, guidelines, and changes in procedures for reference purposes
Prepare accurate reports for upper management.
Maintain logs and records of warehouse stock and executed orders.
Ensure that especially large and/or complex shipments arrive safely.

Arrange same-day deliveries whenever possible
Participate in project meetings and report on progress therein.
Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
Inspect goods to be delivered to ensure that they are in the right quantity and quality. Supervise the loading of such goods into transportation vehicles for delivery.
Conducts supervisory rounds to inspect inpatient, outpatient, and SCB linen rooms to prevent shortages or over supply, or over accumulation of linens.
Assigns and supervises employees in the receiving counting, sorting, marking, issuing, and delivering of linen and medical supplies.
Trains new employees in supply delivery routes and assists in linen delivery and related work.
Makes recommendations for the efficient use of linen on the units including par adjustments.
Monitors the delivery of soiled linen to the loading dock and pick up by the contracted laundry service provider.
Supervises the processing of emergency orders.
Requisitions supplies and medical supplies to maintain sufficient linen and medical supplies.
Supervises the supply, issuance, and return of hospital garments to staff.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:
A. College coursework in operations management, business management, supply chain management or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. Experience in storing/receiving freight, handling or hauling freight, route scheduling, moving and delivery services, warehouse loading, and storage operations, and/or terminal dispatching in an institutional, industrial, and/or commercial setting.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience equivalent to the Assistant Distribution Services Supervisor level which included the direct supervision of employees.
4. Candidates must possess a valid forklift certification in compliance with OSHA Standard 1910.178 and have completed DOT Hazmat training in accordance with 49 CFR Part 172.704 certification requirements.

Willingness to handle numerous phone calls requesting surgical supplies and instrumentation, and resolve work related problems.

Knowledge of inventory management
Familiarity with standard concepts and best practices in a stockroom or warehouse environment
Analytical mind with ability to make accurate mathematical computations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Competencies in data entry, analysis, and management
Keen attention to detail and ability to effectively manage time
Ability to safely operate an electronic pallet jack
Skills to operate common office equipment 5+ years of experience in store keeping, inventory control, warehouse or record keeping
Experience supervising a successful high volume operation in an efficient, innovative and customer sensitive manner
Physical ability to frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
