The Architectural Business Development Manager (BDM) role is pivotal for expanding our presence in the architectural sector. The Architectural Specification BDM will collaborate closely with the Architect, Specifier, General Contractor, and Installer communities to implement current sales strategies and drive the specification position for Knotwood products. As a Territory Sales Manager, you will manage product promotion to influence the design and specification process, positioning our products for commercial projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in architectural or a related field and a deep understanding of the building materials industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement agreed-upon sales strategies (i.e., sales programs) and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Interact with Architects, General Contractors, Installers, and other construction community actors to build relationships and influence the specification process.
• Collaborate with Specification Writers/Creators to develop a prominent specification position for Knotwood products.
• Foster partnerships within the General Contractor and Installer community to increase awareness of Knotwood’s products.
• Identify top Architects and project decision-makers who can influence material changes and position Knotwood as a cladding of choice.
• Liaise with commercial builders and executives to position Knotwood as the preferred cladding for their businesses.
• Identify projects where Knotwood has been specified or submitted. Create and maintain a project pipeline for leads.
• Track and maintain the specified or submitted project pipeline until the order is received.
• Document all activities in Hubspot, either directly or through the admin assistant.
• Present AIA/CES courses to architects.
• Assist in developing new AIA CES offerings.
• Present product knowledge trainings to our partners and architects.
• Coordinate market intelligence on products, programs, shipping, and market segments.
• Collaborate with other Knotwood personnel as needed to provide technical assistance, training, project startup, dealer assistance, contractor assistance, problem resolution, and so on.
• Manage the sales process through dealer or distribution channels as required.
• Collaborate with Field Technical personnel to develop a trained and consistent installer base.
• Participate in regional design organizations and promotional/trade show activities.
• Participate in national promotional/trade show activities as necessary.
• Assist in product development.
• Gather information on competitive activity and prospective strategic directives.

• Professional Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • CSI and AIA certification is a plus
  • 2+ years of sales experience in a B2B environment, preferably in building materials sales.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with clients and maintain a robust client database.
  • Proficiency in face-to-face sales.
  • Must be a self-starter and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to create product and technical presentations are essential.
  • A general understanding of the construction process, along with the ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, is crucial.
  • Experience using Constructconnect and Speclink Data is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using a CRM tool (Hubspot is highly recommended) is also necessary.
  • A keen understanding of social media trends and knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel, are important.
