The Category Manager is a specialized Procurement role responsible for strategic sourcing and supplier relationships. The individual develops and collaborates with global team members to provide oversight in the category managed.
The individual will be a change agent that works closely with the global Procurement team and other Materials Engineering Managers (MEs) to initiate and drive effective supplier management practices that deliver value. The individual will have a detailed understanding of spend, demand, providers and markets to challenge how goods and services are acquired and delivered. The individual is both a domain expert role with the aim to manage stakeholder relationships and a purchasing manager role focusing on the new generation of added value procurement services.
The key responsibilities of this role are:
Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers. Coordinate with the ME, Business and related other functional leaders to establish executive relationships to enable CMC to accomplish goals
Coordinate with ME and Supply Chain teams to ensure we have a consistent message and develop the supplier to deliver high quality and consistently high delivery performance
Identify and establish relationships with new suppliers within the category managed
Understand competitive pricing and landscape with the category managed, to explore and discover opportunities including gathering and disseminating related market and category intelligence
Drive total cost of ownership savings and BCP/ Quality improvement
Collaborate with suppliers and internal partners on value propositions to execute joint growth strategies, Quality requirements, provide access to information and deliver CI results
Support supplier audits and inquiries on raw materials in category managed
Purchasing Processes and Compliance:
Coordinate internal discussions (including Business, ME, Legal, Supply Chain, Procurement and related functions) to reach agreement on desired contract needs and outcome
Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers to consider impact on Cost/Quality/Delivery/Support and also on desired contract needs after internal discussions
Execute and collaborate with Procurement team on transactional Purchasing related responsibilities, to ensure that controls and purchasing processes are in place to ensure compliance
Escalation point to work through supply chain and other related issues with suppliers
Implement effective and efficient methods of processing transactions and payments in collaboration with other functions
Collaborate with ME and Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams to classify raw material risks
Align with Business teams to have in place effective risk mitigation plans
Participate in variance analysis and related action activities
Establish Procurement aligned goals and metrics and raw material budgeting, and to provide leadership for team members
Collaborate with internal partners on talent acquisition, people development and coaching, and training
Build effective working relationships with internal partners to influence quality, variation reduction and cost improvement projects
Support all corporate EH&S and Quality initiatives
Education – Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering or equivalent. Knowledge of CMP processes and market preferred.
Experience – Five years minimum work experience in Chemical or Semiconductor related industry in a commercial role. Experience in leadership role with demonstrated effective project management skills. Prefer to have a background in the category being handled to be able justify decisions to all stakeholders at all levels
