The Operations Manager will be responsible for the growth and development of Johnsonville’s trucking company in North America, which will include driver recruiting and retention, operations, safety and quality. The position will also be responsible for achieving the budgeted financial performance and profitable growth while ensuring regulatory compliance, customer service and implementing best practices. The Operations Manager will work closely with a group of cross-functional team members and customers to achieve Johnsonville’s logistics strategy and mission, goals and plans for growth over the next 3 years.
The Operations Manager will collaborate with the Director of Transportation to develop performance metrics, execution and growth plans; analyze the performance of the trucking company and make recommendations to improve operations and implement these improvements. This position will also lead Johnsonville’s trucking company operations with regards to service and safety performance, cost management and develop a tactical plan to improve/build a profitable truck fleet based in WI and at outside 3PL locations (PA, IL, GA and UT).
Own the Johnsonville Trucking Company P&L, analyze expenditures, revenues and other financial information in order to achieve budgeted goals and drive profitable growth and acceptable returns for Johnsonville.
Coach/supervise 20 company drivers initially and a part-time transportation assistant
Maintain a positive and productive relationships with drivers
Recruit drivers and improve driver recruitment and retention in collaboration with Member Services (HR).
Direct and perform activities related to dispatching, routing and tracking our private truck fleet to achieve on-time pick up and on-time delivery to our customers.
Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints utilizing Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions.
Build positive relationships with both outside customers and Johnsonville customers to contract backhaul opportunities as well as line haul opportunities to generate revenue/profit for the Johnsonville Trucking Company.
Collaborate with other transportation and functional members to improve processes and SOP’s that will create operational efficiencies, eliminate waste and reduce cost.
Develop and monitor metrics for the trucking company operations and close gaps in performance (deliver HICS-Highest Impact on Customer Success)
Monitor operations to ensure that drivers and members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules and DOT/government regulations.
Promote and recognize safe work activities by participating in company driver safety meetings and the annual driver banquet meeting in collaboration with the fleet operations coordinator.
Develop a plan to improve/build a profitable truck fleet.
Improve the business processes for the trucking operations through analysis and collaboration
Ensure customer billings and associate payroll are prepared timely and accurately, the payables and intercompany charges are valid and correct and all other activities are accurately reflected in the P&L
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation/Logistics or related field required
10 years of working experience in the motor carrier industry (reefer truck transportation preferred), including knowledge of trucking operations and DOT and safety regulations.
Proven track record and experience managing trucking company P&L with ability to analyze and mitigate cost and drive profitable growth with acceptable returns for Johnsonville.
