The Routing Manager is responsible for execution of the daily processes that generates optimized routing for the thousands of direct store deliveries (DSD) deliveries made each day. The manager leads a centralized routing team (of 10-12 part-time employees). The manager co-directs (with the Senior Forecaster) the work of Regional Routing Managers (RRMs) and Customer Service Managers (CSMs) throughout the country – including development of routes for ~130 Retail Merchandisers (RMs).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Centralized Routing team
Hire, train, supervise, and performance manage the centralized routing team
Ensure cost-effective coverage to support a 24/7 operation
Develop and maintain Daily Routing SOP, to include
Creation of optimal manifests based on orders, priorities, geo-codes, time windows, and available resources.
Creation of load sheets for each manifest
Communication of manifests and load sheets to locations
Manage Roadnet and other routing tools.
Monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
Establish, manage, and communicate relevant performance metrics, dashboards, and reports
Perform root cause analysis on apparent sub-optimal routes, identifying gaps in SOP, staffing/outsourcing opportunities, execution, data inputs, or other areas
Lead improvement initiatives, including partnership with field to improve routing data inputs (such as geo-codes, resource levels, or route restrictions) and/or routing strategies for specific customers
Manage change related to routing through active communication with field leaders.
Resolve issues escalated by routing team and field leadership.
Assume other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.

Manages routing team of approximately 10 part-time resources, including 2 lead routers.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position primarily works in a typical office environment, is generally sedentary, and uses computers, calculators, phones, and other office equipment. This position has limited travel to field locations, where the employee will be required to walk and stand in manufacturing plants, including freezers. A valid drivers license and acceptable MVR is required. Work is conducted in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships and reason through complex business situations is essential.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in math, finance, business, or related discipline required, advanced degree preferred
Experience managing large teams in high volume environments
Strong computer skills, including experience with routing software programs
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of management
Track record of follow-through on requests and successful close out of issues
Strong analytic and reporting development skills (including advanced Excel skills)
Minimum 7 years of management experience
DSD experience and/or understanding of DSD routing
